• Real Time with Bill Maher (depuis 2003) In fact, I think the main character Camille is my favorite one out of all the ones Gillian Flynn has created over the years. Some actions of hers seemed a bit too hectic (?) for me though; I couldn't understand why the author decided to write some (to the plot completely unnecessary ) scenes involving her in there. These scenes didn't really line up with the rest of her character traits. On the other hand, this also kind of fit in with Camille's overall personality. So I didn't mind this too much.

That blue-bottle cocktail of antifreeze, rat poison and prescription medicines was one thing to which Camille hadn’t built up a tolerance, although it was Curry who came to save the day, rather than Richard. (The series has displayed a pleasingly dark sense of humour; I particularly enjoyed Richard’s emotional apology in hospital, followed by Amma’s response: “What a dick.”) I enjoyed the confidence in letting the question about who knew what linger in the sticky Missouri air, rather than wrapping it all up neatly: surely Chief Vickery had an idea, and Jackie – and that’s to say nothing of Alan’s complicity. Was he protecting his wife, or daughter, or trying to save both of them? Still, it’s all over now. There’s one thing left for Camille to do now. She’s going to have to rewrite that article. Who’s the killer? Although that's not to say I had some issues. One of my major annoyances with this book was that it was extremely over sexualised at times. I am not a prude by any means, but it just felt like everything had links to sex in some way. EVERYTHING. And a lot of the time it seemed completely needless and tacked on. One event in particular… which I can't really talk about as I never include spoilers in a review, but it involved Camille's relationship with someone and it was just… completely unnecessary. In my view, anyway.

• Humanities - Questions & Answers In a conversation with Finn Cohen, Patricia Clarkson recounts just how uneasy she felt inhabiting her deranged character, Adora. “I was in Los Angeles [on set] for five months,” she says, “and maybe this says it all: I had chunks of time off, but I could never come back to New York as Adora. For some reason, I couldn’t be home in my New York apartment as Adora. Something took over me. I don’t want to sound like a ‘pretentious actor,’ but this character infiltrated me in a way that was very hard — by Episode 5, I could not extricate myself from the sheer brutality, and yet sadness and excruciating pain, that I felt sometimes physically.”

So Scholastic invested in a lovely hardcover design for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, with a soon-to-be iconic cover, even though conventional wisdom of the time held that children’s books only made money in paperback. It arranged for Harry Potter to be displayed on the front tables at bookstores, and for ads to appear in the right newspapers and magazines. In short, it gave the book many more resources than are typically afforded to the average debut novel from an unknown author, and that decision paid off. Camille’s mother was a loveless soulless woman who had a strange marriage with a horribly boring man called Allan. Upon this homecoming we see Camille struggle with returning to this hell hole and trying to piece together a child serial killing situation. This just seems nearly impossible for her to do as she relives memories from losing her own little sister many moons ago.

1.79 [50] [b] At the very beginning of the episode, as Camille stumbles through the woods searching for Amma, she trips and reads “CURLS” on a log. It looks like “BARREN,” from her earlier conversation with Richard in the woods, but the shot most closely resembles Camille’s memory of being assaulted by football players while in high school — more than once, she’s had a flashback to a similar image of herself examining her own hand on the ground, with bugs crawling around it.

0.62 I think what mainly got to me was the fact that this book had a main character who was full of weaknesses and sensitivities. Camille has about one hundred insecurities and has only ever known hurt and betrayal and not for once in her life has she felt loved. And I mean, never. Not when she was a baby, not while she was growing up and certainly not now. In comparison with Mrs. Flynn's two other books, whose characters are more tough and more independent and sure of themselves and are just bad bad people, this one pictures a character who every reader can connect with and feel for and maybe identify themselves with.

What About John Keene? In the book, Camille and John do have some kind of coda to their motel-room tryst: “John wrote me a kind, pain-filled letter.” Noxon said she considered giving Camille and John one final moment in the show—even a shared glance on her way out of town—but decided against it, calling their love scene “such a beautiful scene in its own way that we were like, ‘Let’s just let it be what it was.’” In John’s letter to Camille, he explains his strange poolside interaction with Camille’s sister: “He thought [the murderer] was Amma all along. Had moved into Meredith’s [Ashley in the show] place in part to ‘keep watch.’ Which explained the conversation I’d overheard between him and Amma, who’d enjoyed toying with his grief. Hurt as a form of flirtation. Pain as intimacy.” • Unabridged Compact Disc

The characters in this book are bloody EXCEPTIONALLY done, both Camille's mother and her half-sister, Amma are some of the best written, most disturbing characters I have read in a book in ages. I had goose bumps with both of them, a lot of goose bumps. Did I say this book has a dark overtone? • ^ "Lethal White: JK Rowling reveals Strike release date". BBC News. 10 July 2018. Sharp Objects (HBO) August 12

Photo: HBO "A tense, irresistable thriller...Flynn's first-person narration is pitch-perfect, but even more impressive is the way she orchestrates the slim novel's onrushing tension toward a heart-stopping climax."

Willis’s outburst was hardly the first clue “Sharp Objects” had given us that there was something rotten at the core of the Crellin clan. In Episode 5, Vickery — who is pretty much always wrong — called Camille a “bad apple” from a “good tree.” Earlier in the mini-series, by way of delivering the news that Amma was sneaking out at night, he told Adora, of her daughters, “One of them is dangerous and the other one is in danger.” Like Willis, he was onto something; he just erroneously assumed that Camille was the troublemaker and Amma was the helpless victim. • 332 (2014 UK Edition)

At the very end of the novel, Granger says they must build Rowling, in April 2010, published an article in The Times, in which she criticised Cameron's plan to encourage married couples to stay together by offering them a £150 annual tax credit: "Nobody who has ever experienced the reality of poverty could say 'it's not the money, it's the message'. When your flat has been broken into, and you cannot afford a locksmith, it is the money. When you are two pence short of a tin of baked beans, and your child is hungry, it is the money. When you find yourself contemplating shoplifting to get nappies, it is the money." [208]

But then Adora took an interest in the girls. And they started to ask prying questions about why Amma was sick all the time. Finally, Ann bit Adora one time. And that sealed both their fates. 8. Did Adora know about Amma? Sharp Objects

Back down at the police station, Richard and Vickery are interrogating John. Unlike in the book, it seems like Richard actually thinks that John did it. When they take a break, Vickery tells Richard that he’s sorry about what happened with Camille, and confesses that she’s a lot like Adora in the sense that both women want a lot of attention. Suddenly, it starts to seem possible to Richard that he’s got the murders all wrong. After that, Vickery goes to the barber to get a shave and runs into Alan, who leaves in a huff after intimating that there’s something too familiar between Adora and Vickery. It never comes to a head in the book, and it’s satisfying to see it said plainly that Alan is jealous. • Terms

This place came highly recommended by some locals and I'm so glad we followed their advice. I was desperate to get some fish and chips before leaving England and these were made to order from fresh local fish. Hand battered with a song while we waited. The staff was very friendly and I would be back all the time if I lived on the continent. Adora is Camille’s mother. She is also Amma’s mother. They do not share the same father, however, and so as half-sisters separated by age and distance are not familiar with each other. The description must be placed into context: this is the first sighting of Amma by Camille as her half-sister, but not the first time she’s seen her. Up until this moment, Camille did not realize that the prettiest and decidedly differently attired blonde leader of a pack of blondes she’d seen around town was, in fact, Amma. The jaw-dropping divergence between the Amma she has seen and the Amma she is talking to is pretty weird. But then again, it’s a pretty weird family. Especially when one adds the description of what initially drew Camille’ attention to the girl in the sundress:
