There was silence inside the hut. Only the sea and the whistling wind could be heard. Correction: A previous version of this article falsely claimed that the book’s illustrator, Thomas Taylor, didn’t read the book prior to drawing its cover. This is incorrect. We have updated the article to reflect this.

Reading about the Mirror of Erised, you are able to imagine the scene a little bit differently as Harry see his parents flanking one either side of him along with his grandparents and the rest of his extended family. Who knows what actually happened to the rest of Harry’s relatives, and perhaps this question is why it is omitted from the film. J.K. Scholastic Corporation bought the U.S. rights at the Bologna Book Fair in April 1997 for US$105,000, an unusually high sum for a children's book. [15] Scholastic's Arthur Levine thought that "philosopher" sounded too archaic for readers [32] and after some discussion (including the proposed title "Harry Potter and the School of Magic" [33]), the American edition was published in September 1998 [34] under the title Rowling suggested, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. [15] Rowling later said that she regretted this change and would have fought it if she had been in a stronger position at the time. [11] Philip Nel has pointed out that the change lost the connection with alchemy, and the meaning of some other terms changed in translation, for example from " crumpet" to " muffin". While Rowling accepted the change from both the British English "mum" and Seamus Finnigan's Irish variant "mam" to "mom" in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, she vetoed this change in the later books, which was then reversed in later editions of Philosopher's Stone. However, Nel considered that Scholastic's translations were considerably more sensitive than most of those imposed on British English books of the time, and that some other changes could be regarded as useful copyedits. [30] Since the British editions of early titles in the series were published months prior to the American versions, some American readers became familiar with the British English versions owing to having bought them from online retailers. Mohammed Arabey At the very end of the novel, Dumbledore acknowledges that Harry, Ron, and Hermione have passed this impromptu rite of passage by awarding them a total of one hundred and sixty points. This amount allows Gryffindor to win the House Cup and, suddenly, the feast becomes a celebration of the three students’ accomplishments. In the end, Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s successful navigation of the seven challenges and their entry into adulthood proves that they are, indeed, worthy protagonists of the six novels that will follow.
